A Video Walk is a recorded walk; filmed by a single person to facilitate the sharing of personal insights, local knowledge or stories with others. A growing database of video walks is available at VideoWalks.org, where the walks can be downloaded onto mobile phones and video iPods. The documented route of a walk can be retraced by following the route of a walk on a portable media device allowing you to experience a new perspective of your surroundings.
Video Walks has been developed, facilitated and curated by Charlie Ward and Dan Harris. The project will also generate a series of workshops, events and content specific initiatives developing content for mediated spaces.
Portable technologies allow you to watch video in a highly mobilised and connected way. Although we largely neglect the fact, we carry with us increasingly sophisticated tools to capture or playback video on mobile phones, iPods or other portable media devices. Video Walks is a project that will create a system to capture, organise and distribute recorded walks generated by the public.
